Be Joyful Always

Psalm 90:10
The length of our days is seventy years—or eighty, if we have strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

I’ll admit it: Some days, I just don’t feel like being joyful. Maybe someone said or did something that hurt or upset me. Maybe it’s been a really long day at work. Maybe I’m just tired. Whatever it is, my sinful nature wants to be in a bad mood—or, rather, tells me I deserve to be in a bad mood.

When I read Psalm 90 the other day, I was thinking about the 70 or 80 years (maybe more, maybe less) that God has given us to live on the earth. It hit me how quickly those years could be wasted if we choose to fill them with trouble or sorrow. It doesn’t matter how bad of a day I’ve had—choosing to be joyful is always the right choice.

Later on in Psalm 90, we’re given the solution. Verse 14 says to the Lord, “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

Are you having a bad day? Has someone upset you? How will you respond? The choice is yours.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
