In case you don't know, one of the voices of Veritas got married last week. Congratulations, Matt and Allie.
I was very honored to be chosen to stand up for Matt as his best man, and the experience gave me some insight into our relationship with the Lord.
At the reception, I sat beside Matt at the head table. At one point, I told him that this must be what it feels like to be royalty. Later on, I gave a toast in which I shared a little about Matt and what a great man of God he is. Motivated by my love for him and the honor of being chosen as his best man, I wanted to do a really good job on the toast for Matt.
As I reflected on that evening over the next couple days, I thought about how—as Christians—we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, and we can draw near to the throne of grace with confidence (1 Peter 2:9 and Hebrews 4:16)
Today, I read Paul’s instructions to young men in Titus 2:7-8 and was captured by the word dignity. “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned.”
What does dignity look like? I think it’s a correct understanding of your relationship to the Lord. An understanding that God chose you to sit at his throne. An understanding that if God had a best man, it would be you.
And how do we respond? Motivated by our love for the Lord, we should want to please him through good works and teaching that shows integrity, dignity, and sound speech.
