Who Fired the Bullet?

Isaiah 53:12
Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great [kings and rulers], and He shall divide the spoil with the mighty, because He poured out His life unto death, and [He let Himself] be regarded as a criminal and be numbered with the transgressors; yet He bore [and took away] the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors (the rebellious). (Amplified Bible)

Sometimes I think the words “bore” and “propitiation” (1 John 4:10) are glanced over too quickly.

“He bore the sin of many and made intercession…” 1 Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree…”

If you were to make the cross an allegory, it would be impossible to contain all the metaphors. If you were to say, “Jesus took the bullet for us,” you’d have to include the fact that when he died in your place, the “bullet” was fired by you, being your own sin and rebellion.

But who else was holding the gun? God the Father—in love—bringing all of creation to himself, pouring out his wrath upon the Son.

As for the allegory, I’m getting confused thinking about how to phrase things. It’s too complicated to reduce to story form. But if you want to know what happened on that day, I think you have to first research what God was doing before creation and what his needs were. Then read Romans 1-3 in humility. Now read about Gethsemane. Now read Mark 15:33-34. Then go back to Isaiah 53.

Luke 10:20
Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven
