Psalm 37:4-5
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act.

If I were only to make God and his will my very heartbeat, then I would get everything I’ve ever wanted. For my heart would beat after Christ, and I would get Christ.

I believe God has set our hearts and minds up in such a way that the deeply rooted desires we have are indeed rooted in God and what he is trying to accomplish through us. Our need for a purpose, our need for love and to be loved, our desire for guidance, obedience, and subsequent glory are all found in Christ alone, who has given all things in abundance to his children.

My prayer is that God would teach me to throw away all things I treasure that are earthly so that I destroy the thief that robs me of the joy of the Lord.
