Benefit of Believing

“How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” John 5:44

I love the logic here. Believing in God means believing that what he says is true, because what we have to know God is the Bible. Really believing in what God says naturally entails banking your life on it. (How can I say I really believe something if how I spend my time, money, energy, etc., doesn’t reflect it? And how can I say I believe if my relationships with others don’t reflect it?)

If I’m going to bank my life on what God says, I better believe there is some kind of benefit. Let’s be honest: Who would do anything they don’t feel like unless there was a reason?

It says in the Bible that wherever your treasure is, there your heart will be. If I can put my heart more and more into God’s promises and the hope of intimacy with him, I am confident that will be the catalyst for my obedience, which will logically prove that I believe.

“Without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
