Re-Making History

Three brothers in Hong Kong are in the process of unveiling a replica of Noah’s Ark built to the specifications outlined in Genesis. It’s accurate in size, but this modern-day ark, according to the article in the Wall Street Journal, includes a few deviations from the original: a hotel, a restaurant, a museum, and only 67 pairs of fiberglass animals.

Something tells me Noah didn’t originally save space for a commemorative museum, but that’s okay. The fact that you can reconstruct the ark based on dimensions given in the flood account is just astounding. How many flood mythologies give exact dimensions, let alone measurements in such proportions that will create a structurally sound boat? And while we’re digging around for measurements in the Old Testament, we could re-create the whole temple right down to the tassels on the priests’ robes if we wanted to. That’s nuts!

I realize this doesn’t prove the Bible true, but it’s written as a factual historical record with precise, logical information—the Bible begs to be verified. And Romans 1:20 says that God’s divine nature is clearly perceived in things created. This verse refers to nature in general, but even so, God gives us a world full of evidence that points straight back to him, including the Bible. It’s not a book of stories or mythologies. It’s a record of history.
