Believe it or not, Iowans used to farm without the help of John Deere. At Living History Farms, you can visit three authentic farm sites that depict farm life from 1700 to 1900 and walk through the bustling town of Walnut Hill in 1875. And if that’s not enough for you, learn how agriculture has changed throughout the 20th Century in the Wallace Crop Center exhibit.

Tours
Prepare a three-hour block of time if you’d like the full experience. (Two shorter tours are available if you’re not much of a hiker.) It’s open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday from September 5 to October 21 and daily from May 1 to September 3.

Admission
Adults: $11
Children (4-12): $6
Seniors (60+): $10
