God has a wonderful plan for your life. I'm sure he does. But I'm sorry to say that his plan for me may actually be a little bit better than his plan for you.
You see, I'm a winner. A few days ago I won a gift card to spend on Gore-tex outdoor apparel at a sporting goods store. What is Gore-tex you ask? Well it's no Thinsulate, that's for sure. It's legendary—a total revolution in personal dryness technology. According to Wikipedia, "Gore-Tex materials are typically based on thermo-mechanically expanded polytetrafluoroethylene and other fluoropolymer products."
So like I was saying, God really wants me to be warm. He wants to hug me with polytetrafluoroethylene.
Jeremiah 9:23-25
23 This is what the LORD says:
"Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom
or the strong man boast of his strength
or the rich man boast of his riches,
24 but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me,
that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,"
declares the LORD.
25 "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will punish all who are circumcised only in the flesh
Sometimes I wonder how God sees our petty arrogance. It's so easy to become proud about things that are of no eternal significance. Is it wrong to be wise, strong, or rich? No. But it won't change your position before the Lord. What matters is that we know him (vs. 24). Spirituality isn't enough (church attendance included). Riches and strength won't justify you before a holy God. Circumcision of the flesh isn't even enough. We need our hearts to be circumcised.
Romans 2:28-29
A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God.
