Friendly Robot People

I was at work today when I was greeted by a new friend while attempting to exit my web browser. She calls herself Jenny, but she admits she doesn't really exist. How thoughtful that she would give me my own pop-up window offering me assistance and asking for all of my personal information. Needless to say, I think Jen and I have really hit it off.

I was reminded today about just how perverted our world is. I oftentimes look at websites for design inspiration, and inevitably I'm blasted with humanity's flip attitude toward modesty and integrity. A barrage of skimpily-dressed women in banner ads and looped videos of people video chatting greet me at every corner.

And we continue to stoop to the lowest common denominator—even in journalism. One of the top stories today was about how some hackers got into Sarah Palin's Yahoo account and leaked some of her e-mails. Wired News picked it up, and there were so many hits on Wikileaks that it crashed midday. Shrug.

We've come to a point where anything is seemingly OK on the web. The hacking of Palin's e-mail was essentially applauded in the blogosphere. The Dow went down -449.36, but her inbox was front and center on Fox News. My aforementioned friend Jenny doesn't seem to mind, though. She's not a real person. And, ironically, she seems to have more manners than most real people today.

It's a good thing God warned us ahead of time:

1 Peter 4:4-5
"They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead."
