A 26-Year-Old Grandpa

I usually just assume that my to-do list is never ending. Admittedly I tend to be a workaholic more than a lazy bum. And don't get me wrong, working hard is a good thing, but it's not the only thing.

When you're a workaholic who owns a home and has a baby on the way, it's easy to become obsessed with doing the 'responsible' thing all the time. Life may have fewer risks that way, but it makes my wife feel like she's living with a grandpa.

Sometimes the most loving thing to do is something totally unexpected. Something that requires yielding control. Something that requires God. Afterall, who wants a well-watered lawn and dry relationships?

Psalm 127:1
1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.

3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
