I read this verse in Ezekiel the other day and was astounded by God's love for me:
Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. Ezekiel 6:3
There's not a lot of gushy love in these words, but I found them so comforting. I am not the only one who hates my idols—and I really hate the things that I go to for my comfort and satisfaction other than God. I have head knowledge that God is the only one who can meet my needs. But I often ignore rational thought when my flesh is at work, and I go back to worshipping that idol on my high place.
But I am not alone.
God hates my idols more than I do because he has a full understanding of how anything other than him will destroy me. He sees the vanity and the pain that will ensue. But Ezekiel 6:3 promises that he will help us destroy our high places. This is a painful process, but a necessary one to grow in your relationship with God. Let him help you.
