Completing faith

I’ve spent quite a bit of time over the last week or so thinking about what makes my faith work. Why do I live the way that I do? What are the fundamental convictions that direct my day-to-day and moment-by-moment actions? When I am tempted, what are the basic beliefs that direct whether or not I will choose to sin?

Various thoughts roamed around my head for a few days. Finally, I stayed up late one night to get them on paper (or in a Word document). It ended in a 1,474-word manifesto of sorts that referenced my daily commitment to read the Bible, the reality of Jesus, boldly approaching the throne of grace, and my commitment to see people come to know Jesus.

I have a ways to go in life. In no way have I arrived as a holy and perfect being on this earth. But I have committed to seeking the Lord. And He says, “If you seek me you will find me if you seek me with all of your heart and with all of your soul.”

What makes your faith tick? What are the biblical truths that direct your daily and momentary life?

I read James this morning, and there is a great discussion about faith and works. He says that faith without works is dead. Speaking of Abraham he says, “You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works.” James 2:22

It is crazy to think that our faith isn’t complete without action that stems from these core beliefs/faith. It can be challenging to look at our faith and the fruit of our faith. Are there works that are produced as a result of your basic convictions?
