My number one time-waster in life is deciding what I should do. I waiver back and forth constantly about what I should do—to the point that I can’t actually do either option because I wasted all of my time deliberating between the two. It doesn’t matter how large or small the decision I have to make is, I am indecisive.
But last week all of this changed. I decided that I needed a new computer. The fact that my four-year-old laptop has recently slowed to snail-like pace, and the fact that I can’t turn it off for fear that it won’t turn back on, were the top two reasons that the new purchase was necessary.
So I checked my savings, went the the Apple Store to talk to a professional, and sought the counsel of a friend or two. By Thursday, I confidently made my purchase. I was so proud of myself for making a decisive decision responsibly.
One of the first things I did yesterday when I woke up was to check the delivery tracking on my new computer. It was getting close… I would soon meet my new friend that I would spend hours upon hours gazing into the depths of its shiny screen. My friend would help me design things, and write things… we were going to be best friends.
But lo and behold the computer didn’t make it yesterday. A small box arrived with the Apple Care Protection Plan—but no computer. I was anticipating finding a nice big box, but all that was there was a package smaller than a shoebox.
But the real irony is this: today Apple released a new version of the same computer that has twice the memory and is even faster… for $300 less. Ha! If only I would have deliberated a few more days.
(Luckily, an un-opened box is easier to send back.)
