A Lesson in Dumpster Diving
February 2, 2010 | 8:46 PM

As I was leaving my apartment the other day, I noticed a beautiful—or at least what I thought to be beautiful—desk by the dumpster. It caught my attention so fast I almost got whiplash. I was awestruck—I had needed a desk for about a year, but I had never been quite able to afford one. I was so excited!

Upon closer examination I couldn't help but notice the beautifully crafted post-consumer particle wood—the awesome feel-good texture of synthetic wood paper. Oh, did I mention the gold plated trim? The gold was so pure it made the...

Knowing God in a Real Way
December 8, 2009 | 9:53 AM

David the psalmist knew God intimately and sought after God's heart. There has rarely been such a sobering love story. David knew God in a real way because he loved him with everything he had. He knew his word was true and his will divine. Just imagine how much richer your relationship is with your creator—if everything, no matter what it is, is about God.

I read a Psalm today that opened my eyes to God in a new way. Take a look at what David wrote in Psalm 19:

 1The heavens are telling of...

Why Do I Do What I Do?
November 5, 2009 | 11:58 AM

I Timothy 4:7-10 (NASB)
But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness; for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance. For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers.

Rejoice in the Lord Always
October 13, 2009 | 12:16 AM

Recently some negative, I mean negative, things came up in my life. On the outside I wasn't letting it show that I was bothered by it, but inside it was bubbling and erupting in my thought life.

I was trying to trust the Lord with the situation, but I was not allowing him to take care of it. So what was the antidote for the situation? Someone shared this verse with me:

Philippians 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone....

Tribe of Tree Divers
September 22, 2009 | 10:46 PM

I was lying down last night about to go to sleep, watching the Discovery Channel. This documentary about a tribe way out in the Congo jungle came on. They were showing how the tribe does all these crazy dances and rituals for the fertility of their crops.

When the dance was over, they showed the second part of the ritual. And I thought the dance was crazy enough! They had this tree that was like three or four hundred feet up, and they built stands by them out of wood held together with vine ropes. At the...

Evangelical Atheists
August 14, 2009 | 12:44 AM

I was watching the news the other night, and a story about signs on buses that read "Don't believe in God? You are not alone." came on. They were saying that the signs came down due to many requests from callers rejecting the signs. The story sparked an interest in me, so I went to their website and poked around. The website didn't seem to say much, but then I found the "about" link. I was very surprised to see what it said.

They call it "The Out Campaign." I caught on very quickly that out is...
